# Automation (Beta)

Rules watch your Meta and Google Ads numbers every day and either tell you what they found or turn things off for you, inside guardrails you can read.

A rule watches your numbers every day. When something matches what you told it to look for, it either tells you about it or turns that thing off for you. You choose which.

Automation lives at **Automation** in the left menu and has two pages:

- **[Rules](/guides/automation/rules)** is where you write a rule and switch it on or off.
- **[Activity](/guides/automation/activity)** is the log of everything the rules did, including the times they chose to do nothing.

## Why the guardrails matter more than the rule

A rule that acts on thin evidence is worse than no rule, because it turns off things that were only having a slow day. That is why every rule carries a set of limits you can read on the rule itself, not buried in a settings page:

- It never acts on something that has barely spent anything.
- It acts on the same thing at most once a day.
- It ignores the most recent day, because conversions take time to land.
- On Meta, it never acts on something that is still settling in or that changed in the last couple of days.

The spend floor has no off switch. A rule without one fires on noise, so Adsap rejects it.

## What a rule can do

The only action a rule can take is to turn something off. It cannot raise a budget, change a bid, edit an ad, or switch anything back on. That is deliberate for a first version. Turning something off is reversible, and its worst case is that you spend less than you meant to.

## Start with "only tell me"

Every rule can run in one of two modes. **Only tell me** reports what it found and changes nothing. **Turn it off for me** acts.

Run a new rule on **Only tell me** for a week and read the [Activity](/guides/automation/activity) log. If everything it would have turned off is something you would have turned off yourself, switch it over. If it would have caught something you were happy with, adjust the numbers before you let it act.

## Writing a rule by talking to it

You can also create and read back rules through the AI Copilot in Claude, ChatGPT or Perplexity:

> "Turn off any ad that has spent over 50 with no conversions in the last 7 days"

The assistant parses that into a rule and shows it back to you, including the guardrails it filled in, before it saves anything. It writes nothing until you confirm. This works even while the Automation pages are not switched on for your account.
