Launching Into an Existing Campaign

Most launches are not new campaigns. They are new ads going into a structure that already exists and is already performing.

Nothing special to switch on. The campaign, the ad set and the ads are three separate surfaces, so adding ads to something that already exists means skipping the first two.

How to do it

  1. Open an ad sheet at Ad Launcher, then Ad Sheets.
  2. Add rows, or use Load Creatives to create a row per creative.
  3. Set each row’s Campaign and Ad Set to the ones already running. Select the rows and use Bulk Edit to set them all at once.
  4. Fill in the copy and destination.
  5. Review and launch.

The campaigns and ad sets in those pickers come from your account, kept current by background sync. If something you just created in Ads Manager is not listed yet, refresh and give the sync a moment.

What this does not touch

Adding an ad changes nothing above it. The campaign’s budget, the ad set’s targeting, schedule and bidding all stay exactly as they were. You are adding a child, not editing the parent.

To change the parent, use Edit name and status on the performance dashboard. It handles budgets, status, bidding and schedule without leaving the page.

What to know about adding to a live ad set

Adding an ad is a significant edit, and the ad set re-enters the learning phase. The ad set’s budget now spreads across more ads, and Meta decides which ones get it. Add four ads to an ad set with one proven winner and the winner often gets less delivery while Meta tests the newcomers.

If the existing ad is working, consider a separate ad set instead, so the test does not come out of the winner’s budget.

Watch for the new ads getting starved. An ad that gets almost none of its ad set’s spend never gets a fair test. The recommendations check for exactly this and tell you when a new ad gets no delivery.

New ads go through review individually. Meta can still reject a new ad in a long-running ad set on its own.

Adding a new ad set to an existing campaign

Same idea one level up. Create the ad set from Ad Launcher, then Ad Sets, picking the existing campaign in Basic Information, then point sheet rows at the new ad set.

Whether the new ad set gets its own budget depends on the campaign’s budget strategy, set when you create the campaign. Meta lets you switch it later, with restrictions. Under campaign budget optimization the new ad set shares the campaign budget; under ad set budgets it needs its own.

Through the AI Copilot

This is where the assistant is quickest, because you can name what you want in one sentence. Ask it to list your campaigns or ad sets, tick the one you want in the card it renders, and then ask for the ad. It reads your selection rather than asking you to name the ad set again.
