Pause or activate Google Ads entities (adsap_google_set_entity_status)

Platform: Google Ads · Read or write: Write · Plan: All plans · Consumes a task: Yes · Preview supported: Yes

What it does

Pauses or reactivates Google Ads campaigns, ad groups, ads or keywords, up to 20 per call. A preview shows the current and new status, validated by Google, before anything changes.

When to use it

  • Use it to pause or reactivate Google Ads campaigns, ad groups, ads or keywords. One call takes up to 20 IDs of a single entity_type.
  • It supports a preview call. With dry_run set to true, Google validates the change and nothing is applied.
  • Keyword IDs read <ad_group_id>:<criterion_id>. Get them from adsap_google_get_insights at keyword level. Campaign IDs come from adsap_google_list_campaigns.
  • IDs are handled one at a time, in order. A rate limit or an expired Google connection stops the rest of the batch.
  • To rename or change a budget, use adsap_google_update_entity. For Meta, use adsap_set_entity_status.

Worked example

You ask

“Show me what would happen if I paused campaign 21000000001 in Google Ads account 1234567890. Do not change anything yet.”

The assistant calls adsap_google_set_entity_status

{ "ad_account_id": "1234567890", "entity_type": "campaign", "entity_ids": ["21000000001"], "action": "pause", "dry_run": true }

Adsap returns

The field names are the ones Adsap returns. The values are examples.

{ "ok": true, "dry_run": true, "platform": "google", "action": "pause", "results": [ { "entity_id": "21000000001", "ok": true, "dry_run": true, "platform": "google", "entity_type": "campaign", "name": "Spring sale", "current_status": "ENABLED", "changes": [ { "field": "status", "current_value": "ENABLED", "new_value": "PAUSED", "will_change": true } ], "total_would_change": 1, "google_validation": "passed", "warnings": [] } ] }

How to read it

results holds one entry per ID. current_status and the changes row use Google’s wording, so an active campaign reads ENABLED. will_change is false when the entity already has the target status. google_validation reads passed when Google accepts the change. Otherwise it carries Google’s error message. The top-level ok is true only when every entry succeeded.

Nothing was applied here. Each entry and the top level also carry a human_readable_summary sentence, left out of this example. To apply the change, the assistant repeats the call with dry_run set to false.
